10th Edition of 'Ekran'
March 31, 2014 marks the opening session of the tenth edition of the ‘Ekran’ International Programme, which will run through April 10. The programme is organized by the Wajda School.
The Goals of the Programme
During the programme, participating film professionals focus on the creative pre-production stage. The idea behind the programme is to develop the project by producing two key scenes from each script, in order to help filmmakers find the right tone and visual strategy for their idea.
Tutors
Tutors at the ‘Ekran’ programme include acclaimed Polish and international filmmakers: Andrzej Wajda, Volker Schloendorff, Aleksandr Sokurov, Wojciech Marczewski, Jerzy Zieliński, Morgens Rukov (Denmark), Ildiko Enyedi (Hungary), Denijal Hasanovic, Udayan Prasad (United Kingdom), Paweł Pawlikowski, Witold Stok, Marilyn Milgrom (United Kingdom), Jan Fleischer (Cżech Republic), Antoine Jaccoud (Switzerland), Roshanak Behesht Nedjad (Germany).
Films by ‘Ekran’ Participants
Several scripts developed at the ‘Ekran’ workshops were later produced into films that went on to gain acclaim at film festivals around the world. These film include Teraz ja (It’s Me, Now) by Anna Jadowska, Ki (My Name Is Ki) by Leszek Dawid, Lęk wysokości (Fear of Falling) by Bartek Konopka, Wymyk (Courage) by Greg Zgliński, Out of Bounds by Fulvio Bernasconi, Ma salama Jamil (Go with Peace Jamil) by Omar Shargawi, Coeur animal (Animal Heart) by Séverine Cornamusaz, Songs of Love and Hate by Katalina Gödrös, and Sanctuary, a Polish-Irish co-production directed by Norah McGettigan. Upcoming premieres of films developed within the ‘Ekran’ programme include: Modris by Juris Kursietis, Cornea by Jochem de Vriees, Summer Solstice by Michał Rogalski, Off Target by Erik Bernasconi, and We Are Dead by Tobias Noelle.

‘Ekran’ Supported by the Polish Film Institute
The 2014 edition of ‘Ekran’ is organized by Wajda Studio, in cooperation with the Wajda School and with support from the Media Programme and the Polish Film Institute. Polish participants are supported by the Agora Foundation, while the project’s international partners include the Swiss-based FOCAL Foundation, the Austrian Film Institute, the Croatian Audiovisual Centre, the Lithuanian Film Centre, and the International Visegrad Fund.
