29th Warsaw Film Festival
The 29th edition of the Warsaw Film Festival will run from October 11 through October 20, 2013. The festival is co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.
International Film Festival
The Warsaw Film Festival is Poland’s only film event accredited by the International Federation of Film Producers Associations (FIAPF) as one of the world’s top 14 competitive film festivals. In 2011, the Warsaw Film Festival received the Award of the Polish Film Institute in the ‘International Film Event’ category.
International Premieres
WFF audiences will have an opportunity to see a total of 207 films from 57 countries, including 22 world premieres, 21 international premieres, and 22 European premieres. Festival screenings will take place at Multikino Złote Tarasy and at the Kinoteka cinema in the Palace of Culture and Science.
Polish Films in Festival Lineup
The festival lineup features several Polish films. The festival’s international competition will include two films co-financed by the Polish Film Institute: Ida, directed by Paweł Pawlikowski, and W ukryciu (In Hiding), directed by Jan Kidawa-Błoński. The festival’s 1-2 Competition will feature Heavy Mental by Sebastian Buttny. Powrót Agnieszki H. (The Return of Agnieszka H.), a Polish-Czech co-production directed by Krystyna Krauze and Jacek Petrycki, will screen in the Documentary Competition. The lineup of the Short FIlm Competition will feature Powrót (The Return), a short film directed by Ewa Bukowska and co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.
Polish films will also screen in the out-of-competition ‘Shorts Warszawa’ section of the festival. The panorama section features 18 Polish films made in the past year.
Film Market
One of the side events of the Warsaw Film Festival will be the ninth edition of the CentEast film market, a series of industry meetings and special presentations of Eastern European works in progress. Poland will be represented by several films co-financed by the Polish Film Institute: Obce ciało (Foreign Body) directed by Krzysztof Zanussi, and films screened within the framework of the Warsaw Screenings: Chce się żyć (Life Feels Good) by Maciej Pieprzyca, Drogówka (Traffic Department) by Wojciech Smarzowski, Ida by Paweł Pawlikowski, Wałęsa. Człowiek z nadziei (Wałęsa. Man of Hope) by Andrzej Wajda, W ukryciu (In Hiding) by Jan Kidawa-Błoński, and Powrót Agnieszki H. (The Return of Agnieszka H.) by Krystyna Krauze and Jacek Petrycki, as well as Heavy Mental by Sebastian Buttny.
Polish Classics
This year will mark the debut of a new section of the Warsaw Film Festival entitled ‘Polish Classics’ and featuring six digitally restored classic Polish films: Amator (Camera Buff), Krótki film o zabijaniu (A Short Film About Killing), and Krótki film o miłości (A Short Film About Love) by Krzysztof Kieślowski, Deja Vu by Juliusz Machulski, Dług (The Debt) by Krzysztof Krauze, and Struktura kryształu (The Structure of Crystal) by Krzysztof Zanussi.
