5TH PLAY POLAND FILM FESTIVAL

The fifth edition of the Play Poland Film Festival runs from October 15 through December 2. The event is co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.

At this year’s edition of the Play Poland Film Festival, audiences will have an opportunity to attend dozens of screenings and sidebar events in London, Glasgow, Aberdeen, Belfast, Londonderry, Livingston, Motherwell, Coatbridge, Craigavon, and Edinburgh, which will also host the opening gala in mid-October. Director Borys Lankosz will be a special guest at this gala, which will be followed by a screening of his latest film Ziarno prawdy (A Grain of Truth). Other films in this year’s Play Poland Film Festival lineup include Body/Ciało (Body) by Małgorzata Szumowska, Mów mi Marianna (Call Me Marianna) by Karolina Bielawska, Zbliżenia (Close-Ups) by Magdalena Piekorz, Carte Blanche by Jacek Lusiński, and Disco Polo by Maciej Bochniak. In addition to feature films, a key segment of the festival is special screenings of Polish short films. This year’s shorts have been provided by the Łódź Film School and the Katowice Film School, the Wajda School, Studio Miniatur Filmowych, Munk Studio, Filmoteka Narodowa, and the New Horizons and O!PLA film festivals. Several Polish schools will also host free screenings of classic animated films for children.

More than Movies

For years, the Play Poland Film Festival has been a venue for promoting Polish artists and Polish culture. This year’s edition will feature an exhibition of works by the old masters of the Polish school of poster art, as well as works by young talented artists, who designed the visuals for this year’s edition of the festival, supervised by Professor Sławomir Witkowski of the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk.

Play Poland Film Festival is the largest mobile film event in the United Kingdom, aimed at promoting contemporary Polish cinema. Over a period of almost two months, audiences have an opportunity to see some of the latest feature-length and short Polish films, meet with directors and producers, and attend masterclasses, exhibitions, and concerts.
