"80 Million" Reviewed by THR

The Hollywood Reporter published a review of 80 milionów (80 Million), the Polish candidate for the Best Foreign Language Film Academy Award, directed by Waldemar Krzystek and co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.

‘Punchy Period Thriller with Universal Feel-Good Message’

In his Hollywood Reporter review of 80 Million, Stephen Dalton writes:  “[…] the official Polish entry in the Best Foreign Language Oscar race is a punchy period thriller with a universal feel-good message.” In the words of the reviewer, 80 Million “is less a political drama than a lively hybrid of action movie, heist thriller and dark comedy.”

A Film for All Audiences

According to Dalton, 80 Million is “classic spy-movie material […] with a stirring and easily understood good-vs-evil plot line that could play well to foreign audiences […]. Krzystek paints these events in simple colours […]. This is a film all Poles can enjoy, and indeed non-Poles too, whatever their political or religious leanings.”

The Hollywood Reporter review of 80 Million also mentions that “Krzystek’s film is first and foremost an entertaining yarn, and no more unfaithful to its real-life source material than Hollywood Cold War adventures such as Charlie Wilson’s War or [the] current smash Argo. Like both those movies, 80 Million condenses a series of complex historical events into an enjoyably upbeat thrill ride and a universal celebration of victory over tyranny.”
