Award for Snow White and Russian Red

Wojna polsko-ruska (Snow White and Russian Red) by Xawery Żuławski was awarded the “Elephant” grand prize at the 3rd “Wisła” Polish Film Festival in Moscow.

The closing gala was held on April 29 at Moscow’s Khudozhestvenny cinema. The event was attended by many prominent guests, including Mikhail Shvydkoi – Advisor to the President and Prime Minister of Russia for Culture and Cinema, Piotr Marciniak – deputy Ambassador of Poland in Russia, Dariusz Górczyński – representative of the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and many members of the Polish and Russian artistic elite.

This year, just like in last year’s edition, the “Elephant” special prize was awarded for Best Polish Feature. The award is founded by the Guild of Russian Film Critics, one of Russia’s most prestigious organizations in the field of cinema. Among the guild’s 150 members are prominent film critics, journalists, and hosts of television programmes on film. The guild is part of the Russian Filmmakers’ Association.

This year’s “Elephant” award went to Xawery Żuławski’s feature Wojna polsko-ruska (Snow White and Russian Red). A special diploma of recognition of the Guild of Russian Film Critics was presented to Andrzej Wajda for “masterful skill and power of the spirit as exemplified in his films Tatarak (Sweet Rush) and Katyń (Katyn).

Special recognition of the Iskustvo Kino magazine also went to Xawery Żuławski’s Snow White and Russian Red. The audience award went to Małgorzata Szumowska’s 33 sceny z życia (33 Scenes from Life).

Festival screenings gathered a total of over ten thousand admissions.

The violinist Patrycja Piekutowska performed at the closing gala.

The “Wisła” Film Festival is organized by the Wspieram foundation, 35mm and EAR, and co-financed by the Polish Film Institute, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, and the Culture Department of the Mazowieckie Marshal’s Office.
