Awards for Polish Filmmakers

November 7 brought the closing of the 20th Cottbus International Film Festival. The 2011 edition of the festival included an award in the German/Polish Youth Competition section, presented for the first time this year. A jury of Polish and German high school students gave the award to Jacek Borcuch’s Wszystko co kocham (All That I Love), selecting the winning picture from among six competing films. In the director’s absence, the award was accepted by Mateusz Kościukiewicz, who played one of the leads in Borcuch’s film.

 

The Special EY 2010 Award of the European Year to Fight Poverty and Social Exclusion went to Hanoi – Warszawa (Hanoi – Warsaw) by Katarzyna Klimkiewicz, which screened in the Focus section of the festival.

  • Grand Prize: White, White World, directed by Oleg Novkovic (Serbia, Germany, Sweden);

  • Awards for Best Director, Best Actress, and Ecumenical Jury Prize: Adrienn Pal, directed by Agnes Kocsis (Hungary, Netherlands, Austria, France);

  • Best Actor Award: The Temptation of St. Tony, directed by Veiko Ounpuu (Estonia);

  • DIALOGUE Prize for Intercultural Communication: Vespa, directed by Diana Groo (Hungary);

  • International Film Guide Inspiration Award: Tilva Ros, directed by Nikola Lezaic (Serbia);

  • Special Mention: Another Sky, directed by Dmitry Mamulija (Russia);

  • Best Short Film: Sea of Desires, directed by Shota Gamisonia (Russia);

  • Special Mention (Short Film): Music in the Blood, directed by Alexandru Mavrodineanu (Romania, France);

  • GWFF Promotion Award: Anastasia Posnova;

  • DEFA Foundation Award: Tales of Defeated, directed by Yael Reuveny (Israel, Germany);

  • Cottbus Discovery Award: Tales of Defeated, directed by Yael Reuveny (Israel, Germany);

  • Audience Award: The Light Thief, directed by Aktan Arym Kubat (Kyrgyzstan, Germany, France, Netherlands);

  • FIPRESCI Award: Another Sky, directed by Dmitry Mamulija (Russia);

  • Best First Film by a Director: Another Sky, directed by Dmitry Mamulija (Russia)
