"Baby Blues" at 2013 Berlinale

Bejbi Blues (Baby Blues), directed by Katarzyna Rosłaniec and co-financed by the Polish Film Institute, will screen in the Generation 14plus section of the upcoming 63 ^rd Berlin International Film Festival, which runs from February 7 through February 17, 2013.

Generation 14plus

Bejbi Blues (Baby Blues) by Katarzyna Rosłaniec will screen at next year’s Berlinale in the Generation competition section, which showcases films about children (Generation Kplus) and young adults (Generation 14plus). This year’s Generation 14plus section features Baby Blues and seven other productions from around the world, including Hide Your Smiling Faces by Daniel Patrick Carbone, The Cold Lands by Tom Gilroy, and Shopping by Louis Sutherland and Mark Albiston.

Bejbi blues (Baby Blues)

Bejbi blues (Baby Blues) is the story of an immature 17-year-old mother who wanted to have a baby just for the sake of having a baby. All the young celebrities, like Britney Spears of Nicole Richie, are having babies. But why did Natalia really decide to become a mother at such a young age? The answer may lie in what teenagers write at online forums. They want to have babies to finally have someone who will truly love them, and to have someone to love.

Second Feature from Katarzyna Rosłaniec

Bejbi Blues (Baby Blues) is the second feature film from director Kataryna Rosłaniec, whose debut feature was Galerianki (Mall Girls). The lead role is played by Magdalena Berus, with supporting performances by Nikodem Rozbicki, Michał Trzeciakowski, Mateusz Kościukiewicz, Magdalena Boczarska, and Katarzyna Figura. The film was lensed by Jens Ramborg, while its artistic supervisor was Małgorzata Szumowska. The world premiere of Baby Blues took place at the 37^th Toronto International Film Festival.

Film Supported by the Polish Film Institute

Baby Blues was produced by Mental Disorder 4 (MD4), and co-produced by Zentropa International Poland, Telekomunikacja Polska, and Warszawa Powiśle. The film was made in co-operation with the Warsaw Film Foundation, and co-financed by the Polish Film Institute. Distribution in Poland is handled by Kino Świat; the film is set for theatrical release on January 4, 2013.

The Berlin International Film Festival has been organized annually since 1951 and is one of the most important and prestigious film festivals in the world. The 63^rd edition of Berlinale will run from February 7 through February 17, 2013.

Awards for Films Co-Financed by the Polish Film Institute

Recent editions of Berlinale have brought several awards for Polish films co-financed by the Polish Film Institute. In 2011, the Deutsche Kinderhilfswerk Grand Prix for best feature film in the Generation Kplus section of the festival went to Jutro będzie lepiej (Tomorrow Will Be Better) by Dorota Kędzierzawska. The festival’s key awards also went to the creators of El Premio (The Prize) by Paula Markovich: Wojciech Staroń received the Silver Bear Award for Outstanding Achievement, while Barbara Enriquez was recognized with the Silver Bear Award for Production Design.
