"Baby Blues" Awarded in Taipei

Bejbi Blues (Baby Blues), a film directed by Katarzyna Rosłaniec and co-financed by the Polish Film Institute, received the Special Jury Prize at the 15th Taipei International Film Festival.

Twelve films screened in the New Talent Competition for first- and second-time filmmakers. Jury members Huang Jianxin, Aditya Assarat, Kiki Sugino, Yeşim Ustaoğlu and Wen Tien-Hsiang gave the Special Jury Prize to the Polish film Bejbi Blues (Baby Blues), directed by Katarzyna Rosłaniec. According to the jury statement, “without cheap sympathy […], this work has an astonishing ending that shows the conflicts in the relation between youth and fashion. The performances from the young actors are remarkable.” The Grand Prize of the Taipei Film Festival went to an Israeli-German co-production entitled Youth, directed by Tom Shoval.

Recognition for Sławomir Fabicki’s Miłość (Loving)

Taipei audiences also had an opportunity to see Miłość (Loving) by Sławomir Fabicki (also screening in the New Talent Competition). The film received the PIXNET Movie Blogger Recommendation Award. According to the jury statement, “the film sympathetically delivers family and social issues, depicting one man’s journey into adulthood.”

Polish Films in Taipei

The festival lineup also featured other Polish films: W imię… (In the Name Of…) by Małgorzata Szumowska, winner of the Teddy Award at the 63rd Berlin International Film Festival, and Nieulotne (Lasting) by Jacek Borcuch, winner of the Cinematography Award at the Sundance Film Festival for photography by Michał Englert. Both films screened in the Auteur Selection section of the festival. The Taipei lineup also featured Personel (Personnel) by Krzysztof Kieślowski, which screened in the festival’s Panorama.
