"Baby Blues" Wins CICAE Award

Bejbi Blues (Baby Blues), directed by Katarzyna Rosłaniec and co-financed by the Polish Film Institute, received two awards at the 29th Festroia International Film Festival in Setúbal, Portugal. The festival closed on June 16.

Award of the International Art Cinema Confederation

Jury members Ales Ogorevc, Gertraud Eiter and Odeta Karoblyte awarded the CICAE Art Cinema Award to Bejbi Blues (Baby Blues) for its energetic and modern manner of story-telling, combining a hypnotic cinematic view with remarkable acting by teenagers. According to the jury, Katarzyna Rosłaniec’s film discusses complex issues without moralizing. By offering a new cinema style, this film has the potential to attract young as well as older spectators. It is a fact worth mentioning that in 2010, the CICAE award and the FIPRESCI award at the Festroia Festival went to Jacek Borcuch’s Wszystko, co kocham (All That I Love).

Special Mention from the SIGNIS Award Jury

Members of the SIGNIS World Catholic Association for Communication SIGNIS Jury (Magali Van Reeth, Nathalie Resch, Inês Gil, Davide Zordan, and Daniel Nascimento) voted to give Special Mention to Bejbi Blues (Baby Blues). The SIGNIS Award went to a Belgian production entitled The Broken Circle Breakdown, directed by Felix Van Groeningen.

Polish Films in Portugal

The 14 titles screening in the festival’s Official Section included three films related to Poland: Bejbi Blues (Baby Blues) by Katarzyna Rosłaniec and Żywie Biełaruś (Viva Bel@rus) by Krzysztof Łukaszewicz, both co-financed by the Polish Film Institute, as well as Tango Libre by Frédéric Fonteyne, which was filmed in Kalisz. Polish films also screened in other festival sections: Dzień Kobiet (Women’s Day) by Maria Sadowska and Bez wstydu (Shameless) by Filip Marczewski in the First Works section, Sekrety miłości by Krystian Matysek in the Man and His Environment section, and Miłość (Loving) by Sławomir Fabicki in the Love Films section. The lineup of the children’s films section also featured Felix, Net i Nika oraz Teoretycznie Możliwa Katastrofa (Felix, Net and Nika and the Theoretically Possible Catastrophe), directed by Wiktor Skrzynecki.
