"Battleheart" in Locarno

Serce do walki (Battleheart) by Tomasz Matuszczak is in official selection at the 65th Locarno International Film Festival, which launches on August 1. Battleheart, co-financed by the Polish Film Institute, will screen in the Pardi di domani / Leopards of Tomorrow international short film competition.

Produced at the Munk Studio within the framework of the 30 Minutes programme, Battleheart will screen as one of 29 films in the Pardi di domani international short film competition. This section focuses on short films made by film students or independent filmmakers who have not had their feature debut. This year’s international short film competition jury membes are: Mark Peploe (chairman), Laurent Achard, Robin Harsch, Isabelle Mayor, and Kleber Mendonça Filho.

Iluminacja (Illumination) and a Lecture by Krzysztof Zanussi

This year’s Histoire(s) du cinéma section, a retrospective of films by acclaimed filmmakers, will include Krzysztof Zanussi’s Iluminacja (Illumination), which triumphed at the 1973 edition of the Locarno International Film Festival, winning the Golden Leopard grand prize, the FIPRESCI award, and the ecumenical jury prize. This year’s festival will also feature a master class with Zanussi.

STEP IN Initiative

STEP IN is another key programme at Locarno,  set for August 4-6 within the framework of the festival. The STEP IN initiative will be a presentation of the latest films from Eastern Europe. The Polish Film Institute is a partner organization of the STEP IN programme.

“Teaching Cinema”

The Locarno film festival will also feature a meeting dedicated to education in European film schools. “Teaching Cinema” is aimed at presenting the programme of film schools and promoting international cooperation among the schools. The meeting will be attended by Marcin Malatyński, lecturer at the National Film School in Łódź and representative of the school’s rector for film production.

 

The 65th Locarno International Film Festival runs from August 1 through August 11, 2012.
