“Between Two Fires” at FebioFest
Dwa ognie (Between Two Fires), the feature debut from Agnieszka Łukasiak, made in co-production between Sweden and Poland, will screen at the FebioFest festival. The festival’s 18th edition is taking place in Prague between March 24 and April 1.
Between Two Fires is the story of Marta. Together with her daughter, Marta tries to flee the world of child trafficking in Belarus, and ends up at a refugee camp in northern Sweden. The film focuses on the globally topical issues of emigration, running from persecution, fighting for survival, and respect for human rights.
FebioFest is the second largest (after the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival) film event in the Czech Republic. The festival’s various sections (including the World Cinema Panorama, Made in USA, Upstream, Czech Made Kitsch, and Another Shore) feature premiere screenings of films from around the world, as well as film classics.
Agnieszka Łukasik’s debut feature had its world premiere at the Pusan International Film Festival in October 2010. The film’s European premiere took place at the last Warsaw Film Festival.
For her feature, Łukasik received the award of the Ecumenical Jury at the Nordic Film Days in Lubeck, and the Journalist Award at Poland’s 18th Prowincionalia 2010 Festival of Film Art. Lead actress Magdalena Popławska also received the Audience Award for Best Actress at Prowincjonalia.
Between Two Fires was made by Apple Film Production, in co-production with Hob AB, Filmpool Nord AB, Republiken AB and Sonet Film AB, and was co-financed by the Polish Film Institute, the Swedish Film Institute, and the MEDIA programme.
