„Beyond is the day” awarded at the festival in Clermont-Ferrand

Short film „Beyond is the day” directed by Damian Kocur was awarded with the Best European Film Award at the 43rd Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival in France. It places the title on the list of films eligible for the nomination for the European Film Award for Best Short Film.

Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival is the biggest festival for shorts all over the world. „Beyond is the day” was the only Polish title that was selected out of 7000 movies to start in the International Competition. Jury consisting of Bertrand Faivre, Bérangère Mc Neese, Pascale Faure, Anthony Nti and Hefang Wei praised the humanistic and universal tone of the film.

Film tells the story of Paweł, a lonely man who works on a small river ferry near his village. He spends most of his time transporting villagers to the other side of the river. Although Paweł is famous in the area, he spends every single day alone. One day, he notices that someone is trying to swim across the river. That person is Mohammad, the illegal immigrant. Paweł decides to help and hides him, finally having someone he can talk to.

Earlier on, the film won Osiride Brovedani Foundation Award for Best Short Film at the 32nd Trieste Film Festival. It was awarded with Silver Hobby-Horse for the best short fiction film at the 60th Krakow Film Festival, Special Jury Prize in the Short Film Competition at the 45th Festival Polish Film Festival in Gdynia and the Grand Prix of the Short Films Competition at the WAMA Film Festival in Olsztyn.

Damian Kocur is responsible for the cinematography for the film, Paweł Laskowski and Damian Kocur for editing, set design was designed by Kamila Pściuk-Glazer while Małgorzata Zabłocka made costumes. Sound design is by Jakub Jerszyński, but Wojciech Skrzypczyński was the production manager of the film. The producers of the film are Damian Kocur from Tomcat and Michał Sadowski from Kinghouse.
