"BODY/CIAŁO" WINS IN PERU

Małgorzata Szumowska’s latest feature BODY/CIAŁO, recently awarded the Silver Bear Award for Best Director at the Berlin IFF, has now received the grand prize of the Al Este de Lima festival in Peru. The film was produced with support from the Polish Film Institute.

BODY/CIAŁO Wins Grand Prize

The chairman of this year’s jury was Paweł Pawlikowski, winner of last year’s grand prize for his feature Ida. In addition to the grand prize, the jury awarded BODY/CIAŁO the Best Actor Award for Janusz Gajos. The jury also gave special mention to Corn Island, a German/Czech/Kazakh/Hungarian co-production directed by George Ovashvili. The award for Best Actress went to Klaudia Dudová for her performance in The Way Out, a film by Petr Václav.

Polish Films in the Festival Lineup

The festival lineup featured a number of Polish films, some of which were co-financed by the Polish Film Institute. Festival audiences had an opportunity to see Małe stłuczki (Little Crushes) by Aleksandra Gowin and Ireneusz Grzyb, which screened in Main Competition alongside Małgorzata Szumowska’s BODY/CIAŁO, as well as 15 stron świata (15 Corners of the World) by Zuzanna Solakiewicz and a selection of Polish documentaries and animations organized in cooperation with the Krakow Film Festival and the O!PLA festival. The lineup also featured Polish animations made between 1954 and 1965, Krzysztof Kieślowski’s Decalogue, and a retrospective of films by Paweł Pawlikowski.

Al Este de Lima

The Al Este de Lima festival is the only event in South America dedicated to films from Central and Eastern Europe. This year’s edition of the festival featured over 40 films. The event has become very popular among audiences, which is why screenings are held not only in Peru’s capital Lima, but also in other cities, including Arequipa, Chiclayo, Cusco, and Pucallpie.

The sixth Al Este de Lima film festival ran from May 20 through May 30, 2015.
