„Corpus Christi” awarded at a festival in Brazil

The film by Jan Komasa – „Corpus Christi” won the Grand Jury Award and the Critics’ Award at the Brazil International Film Festival (BIFF). This one of the most important festivals in this country, due to the coronavirus pandemic, was entirely online for the first time.

Over 20 films from around the world participated in the event, including such images as „Take Me Somewhere Nice” from Bosnia, „Fengas” from Brazil, „Blue Breath” from Portugal or the American-Turkish „French Teacher”. The digital platform on which the festival images appeared was made available for free to viewers in Brazil, thanks to which about 50,000 people saw them.

„Corpus Christi”, this year’s Polish Oscar candidate in the category of Best International Film, thus continues its triumphant march, which began at the Venice Festival, where it won the Europa Cinemas Label and the Inclusive Award Edipo Re. Then there were Golden Lions for directing for Jan Komasa at the 44th Polish Film Festival in Gdynia, award for supporting role for Eliza Rycembel, audience award or journalist award. The film was also appreciated at events taking place in  Stockholm, Minsk or Toronto. Finally in March this year the film won a record number of 11 awards of the Polish Film Academy – statuettes of Polish Eagles. The film was co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.
