Polish Animations Compete for Oscar Nominations

According to the US-based website Cartoonbrew, the latest films by two Polish filmmakers: Danny Boy by Marek Skrobecki and Animowana historia Polski (Animated History of Poland) by Tomasz Bagiński are among 33 titles that fulfilled the necessary qualifications to be considered for an Academy Award nomination in the Best Animated Short category.

Members of the Short Films and Feature Animations branch of the Academy of Motion Arts and Sciences will vote to select first a shortlist of ten titles, and then, in a following round of voting, will choose the final five nominated titles that will compete for an Academy Award at the 83rd edition of America’s top film industry awards.

The final vote is open to all Academy members who have seen all titles nominated in a given category.

The Polish-Swiss co-production Danny Boy (co-produced by Se-ma-for and Archangel) has so far received the “Narcisse” H.R. Giger Award at the Neuchâtel Fantastic Film Festival in Switzerland, and the 2nd Audience Award at the Solothurn Film Festival, also in Switzerland.

Animowana historia Polski (Animated History of Poland), made for the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai by Platige Image, has received the 2010 Animago Award for Best Visualisation.
