The Polish Film Institute is happy to announce that Essential Killing, the latest feature from Jerzy Skolimowski, will screen in Main Competition at the Venice International Film Festival. Festival director Marco Müller writes in his letter of invitation that Skolimowski’s film will be an important part of the success of the 67th edition of the Venice International Film Festival.

Films competing for the Golden Lion in Venice in recent years included the Polish co-production Nightwatching (2007) by Peter Greenaway, Persona Non Grata (2005) by Krzysztof Zanussi, and Pornografia (Pornography, 2003) by Jan Jakub Kolski.

The last Polish Golden Lion winner was Krzysztof Kieślowski, who won the top Venice award for his feature Three Colours: Blue in 1993.

Essential Killing was produced with financial support from the Polish Film Institute (5 million PLN). Our congratulations go out to the director and his crew. Best of luck in Venice!
