Ewa Wiśniewska Awarded in China

Ewa Wiśniewska received the Award for Best Actress at the 22nd Golden Rooster and Hundred Flowers Film Festival in China for her performance in Piąta pora roku (The Fifth Season of the Year), a film directed by Jerzy Domaradzki and co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.

Growing Collection of International Awards

The award received at the Golden Rooster and Hundred Flowers Film Festival marks yet another international award for Piąta pora roku (The Fifth Season of the Year). Last year, Marian Dziędziel received the award for Best Actor in Main Competition at the Cairo International Film Festival. In May 2013, Jerzy Domaradzki’s feature received the Bronze Knight Award at the Khabarovsk International Film Festival.

Piąta pora roku (The Fifth Season of the Year)

On the surface, they have nothing in common; they come from different backgrounds, have different values, even their life experience sets them apart. Witek is a widowed driver who has driven thousands of miles in his life, but never really seen anything outside his homeland of Silesia. Barbara, a music teacher, cannot get over the death of a loved one – a renowned painter with whom she spent the most beautiful years of her life. Wanting to fulfill his dying wish and bury his ashes at sea, she turns to Witek for help. During their journey across Poland, a journey surprisingly abundant in discoveries, these two lost souls will be brought together and form a friendship that will allow them to overcome even the largest differences.

A Film Supported by the Polish Film Institute

The feature Piąta pora roku (The Fifth Season of the Year) was produced by Wytwórnia Filmów Dokumentalnych i Fabularnych (WFDiF) and co-produced by Studio Filmowe Oko and Silesia-Film. The film was written by Natalia Pryzowicz and lensed by Zbigniew Wichłacz. The original score was composed by Jerzy Satanowski. Ewa Wiśniewska and Marian Dziędziel played the lead roles, with supporting performances from Andrzej Grabowski, Natalia Rybicka and Leszek Lichota. Piąta pora roku (The Fifth Season of the Year) was co-financed by the Polish Film Institute an the Silesian Film Fund. The film was released in cinemas across Poland on December 26, 2012. Distribution in Poland is handled by Kino Świat.

The Golden Rooster and Hundred Flowers Film Festival

Organized by the Chinese Filmmakers Association, the Golden Rooster and Hundred Flowers Film Festival is one of the largest film events on the Asian continent. The festival lineup features special sections dedicated to Chinese cinema, as well as screenings of a selection of foreign and international productions. This year’s edition of the festival is taking place in the city of Wuhan. In addition to Jerzy Domaradzki’s Piąta pora roku (The Fifth Season of the Year), audiences of the Golden Rooster and Hundred Flowers Film Festival had an opportunity to see two other Polish films co-financed by the Polish Film Institute: Supermarket, directed by Maciej Żak and Imagine by Andrzej Jakimowski.
