The Independent Film Foundation was created in 1999 to support creativity and production of intellectually demanding films and create suitable conditions for the artistic and professional development of filmmakers. Since 2006, the Foundation has organized a training program for scriptwriters from Eastern and Central Europe called ScripTeast. Since 1999 the Independent Film Foundation has organized the annual ceremony of Polish Film Awards “Orły” (The Eagles). It also runs the Polish Film Academy, which gathers all active Polish filmmakers. Members of the Academy, in a two-stage balloting process, select the nominees and then winners of the Eagles. Over the past three years, the Foundation organized the Polish presentation in the Polish-Czech-Slovak pavilion at the Cannes International Film Festival. The Foundation also participates in co-organizing international meetings and conferences. The founder of the Independent Film Foundation is Dariusz Jabłoński, film director and producer, member of the European Film Academy.
