Film on Opałka Awarded in Montreal

Opałka – jedno życie, jedno dzieło (Opałka – One Life, One Oeuvre),  directed by Andrzej Sapija, received the Grand Prize at the 30th International Festival of Films on Art. The festival ran from March 15 through March 25, 2012 in Montreal. Opałka – One Life, One Oeuvre was co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.

Documentary About Roman Opałka’s Life Work

The film focuses on Polish-French artist Roman Opałka and his work entitled “Opałka 1965/1-∞”. Opałka spent 45 years of his life on this piece, working on it until his death. He died on August 6, 2011 in Rome. In this documentary, Opałka discusses the origins of his project, set against his personal and artistic background; he also discusses his life philosophy. The works of Roman Opałka are featured in the collections of such museums as the Museum of Modern Art and the Guggenheim Museum in New York, or the Georges Pompidou Centre in Paris.

International Festival of Films on Art

The International Festival of Films on Art in Montreal is one of the largest and most important of world festivals dedicated to films focusing on art. Over 11 days, the festival showcases the world’s best productions about the world of art: theatre, painting, design, fashion, photography, architecture, and music.

Screenings at International Festivals

Andrzej Sapija’s film will soon feature at several other international film festivals, including the Artecinema Festival in Naples (October 4-7), Lo schermo dell’arte Film Festival in Florence (November 21-25), and Move Cine Arte in Monte Verde, Brazil (November 15-18).
