FilmPOLSKA in Berlin and Potsdam

The fifth edition of filmPOLSKA will take place between April 15 and 21. Audiences in Berlin and Potsdam will have an opportunity to attend around 100 film screenings over seven days.

The official partner of this year’s edition of filmPOLSKA is the Zeughaus cinema, located in the German Historical Museum (Deutsches Historisches Museum).

The festival will screen the latest Polish feature and documentary films, as well as student films. German audiences will have a chance to see a retrospective of films produced by Opus Film, and a series dedicated to the early days of the “Solidarity” movement. In addition to film screenings, there will also be film workshops with Polish cinematographers, as well as a series of lectures and discussions.

The Documentary Film section will include Marcin Koszałka’s Do bólu (Till It Hurts), winner of the 2008 Dok Leipzig festival, while Koszałka himself will host film workshops during the festival. Another film screened in this section is Chemia (Chemo) by Paweł Łoziński, winner of the Prix Europa 2009. German audiences will also have an opportunity to see Bartek Konopka’s Oscar-nominated documentary Królik po berlińsku (Rabbit a la Berlin).

The Opus Film Retrospective will include such films as Edi (Eddie) by Piotr Trzaskalski and Z odzysku (Retrieval) by Sławomir Fabicki.

A special film section of filmPOLSKA will be dedicated to the “Solidarity” movement, to commemorate the 30th anniversary of its existence. This section will includes films by Krzysztof Kieślowski, Andrzej Wajda, Kazimierz Kutz and Marcel Łoziński; films that portray the political situation in Poland in those days and outline the development of “Solidarity”.
