Films by Andrzej Wajda in America

A retrospective called “Truth or Dare: The Films of Andrzej Wajda” will open on 17 October in New York at Walter Reade Theatre, part of the famed Lincoln Center cultural institution. The event will open with a screening of the original version of Land of Promise (Ziemia obiecana).

During the retrospective, which lasts until 13 November, all of the director’s feature films and many of his documentaries will be shown.

At the same time in the Anthology Film Archives, a cinema retrospective by Wajda will take place of chosen performances from Television Theatre. During his stay in New York, the author of Ashes and Diamonds (Popiół i diament) will give a lecture to students from Columbia University.

The Polish Film Institute is the co-organiser of the retrospective, together with the Film Society of Lincoln Center, the Polish Culture Institute in New York and the National Archives.

The legendary Polish director will then visit Cuba, where a retrospective of his films will begin on 1 November at the historic “Charlie” cinema in Havana. Viewers will see 17 films, some to be shown in Cuba for the first time. Man of Marble (Człowiek z marmuru) and Katyń, Wajda’s latest film, are a great sensation in Cuba.

The Polish Film Institute is the co-organiser of the event, together with the Cuban Archives, the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Havana and the promotion agency Maniana.
