"A woman is like wool; the more you beat her, the softer she'll be." (old Turkish saying)
The Turkish minority in Germany has a population of about 2.5 million. Each year, at least a dozen Turkish women are murdered by their husbands or other family members. Statistics say that there are over 300 "honour killings" in Turkey every year, and that 40% of wives are victims of domestic violence. Aisze-Arcu was sent to Germany and forced to marry when she was 13 years old. Her personal hell began not long afterwards; she was beaten and abused in many ways. After a few years, she managed to escape; she remains in hiding to this day, thanks to which she has been able to tell us her story.
The film was made as part of the „Triangle Dialogue" programme of the Andrzej Wajda Master School of Film Directing, the IFS International Film School in Cologne, and the Sam Spiegel School in Jerusalem.
