Film is being made in order to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the birth of the Solidarity trade union. This is a venture, in which the greatest Polish filmmakers have joined forces.

Juliusz Machulski
Born in 1955. Director, scriptwriter and producer. Graduated from directing at the Łódź Film School. Studied at Cal-Arts in California, was a lecturer at the Hunter College in New york. Laureate of numerous festival awards; directed some of Polish cult comedies. Co-founder and artistic director of the Zebra Film Studio.

 

Andrzej Jakimowski
Born in 1963. Director, screenwriter, producer. Graduated from Radio and Television Department at the Silesian University in Katowice. Author of many documentaries. His feature film debut Squint Your Eyes received more than 20 awards in Poland and abroad.

 

Jerzy Domaradzki
Born in 1943. Graduated in film directing from The National Film School in Łódź. Director and scriptwriter.


Jan Jakub Kolski
Born in 1956. Director, screenwriter, cinematographer, writer. Graduated from cinematography at the Łódź Film School. Laureate of numerous film awards in Poland and abroad. Member of the European Film Academy.

 

Piotr Trzaskalski
Born in 1964. Graduated in cultural studies from the University of Łódź and in film directing from the National Film School in Łódź. Director and screenwriter.

 

Filip Bajon
Born in 1947. Film and theatre director, screenwriter, novelist. Graduated in law from Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań and in film directing from the Łódź Film School. Author of novels, short stories, and film scripts. Winner of numerous awards. Dean of the Directing Department at the Łódź Film School since 2008.

 

Krzysztof Zanussi
Director, screenwriter, film producer. Doctor honoris causa of several universities. Film School Professor of the National Film School in Łódź, National Film School in Great Britain, Radio and Television Department at University of Silesia. Directs in theaters as well. Member of European Film Academy. Head director of Tor Film Studio.

 

Robert Gliński
Born in 1952. Director, scriptwriter, and academic teacher. Graduated from the Łódź Film School. Laureate of numerous awads at Polish and international film festivals. Since 2002, a lecturer atthe Directing Department of Łódź Film School, since September 2008, its rector.

 

Ryszard Bugajski
Born in 1943. Film and theatre director, screenwriter, essayist, plays translator. Graduated from philosophy at Warsaw University and from Łódź Film School. In 1981 directed Interrogation, a famous film which received numerous awards following the 1989 political turnover in Poland. For making this film, he was dismissed from work in the film studio on disciplinary grounds by the communist authorities and forced to emigrate. In 1990, Krystyna Janda received Best Actress Award atthe Cannes Film Festivalfor her main role in Interrogation.

 

Jacek Bromski
Born in 1946. Director, screenwriter, producer. Graduated from the National Film School in Łódź. President of Polish Filmmakers' Association. Vice-president of AIDAA, member of the General Assembly of AGICOA. Laureate of numerous awards at Polish and international film festivals.

 

Feliks Falk
Born in 1941. Film and theatre director, screenwriter, playwright. Graduated from the Fine Arts Academy in Warsaw and Łódź Film School. Laureate of numerous film awards for The Collector (Komornik). Łódź Film School lecturer. Member of the European Film Academy.


Andrzej Wajda
Born in 1926. Theatre and film director. Co-founder of Polish Film School, one of the most prominent personages of European cinema. Laureate of numerous festivals and lifetime achievement awards: Golden Palm (1981), Cesar (1982), European Film Award (1990), Freedom Award (1999) and Oscar (2000). Founder and lecturer of Andrzej Wajda Master School of Film Directing.

 

Małgorzata Szumowska
Born in 1973. Director and screenwriter. Graduate of the National Film School in Łódź. Her student films and documentaries won a number of film awards; her student film Cisza (Silence) alone won 18 awards at international film festivals. Nominated for a European Film Award as European Discovery of the Year for her features Szczęśliwy człowiek (Happy Man) and Ono (Stranger), both of which screened and received awards various international film festivals. Member of the European Film Academy since 2001.
