The film, directed and written by Nastazja Gonera, was appreciated at the 48th Students Academy Awards. On October 21, we will find out whether the short fiction produced by the National Film, Television and Theater School in Łódź will win a statuette.

The Student Oscars are awarded annually by the American Film Academy to the best student films in several categories: animated, documentary, fictional, alternative and foreign feature, animated and documentary films. Winners may apply for an Oscar nomination.

The list of this year’s finalists includes 37 titles. „First Last Summer” was appreciated, along with six other productions, in the Foreign Feature Film category.

 „First Last Summer”

Co-financed by the Polish Film Institute, the film tells the story of a specific experiment in which a group of scientists and military personnel turns recidivists into animals. They are not random animals – species are selected in terms of the current needs of nature. One day, a young girl appears in a transport to the center along with the murderers and rapists. Suddenly, in the eyes of one of the employees, everything changes. Gonera in her film poses a key question: „whose life would we be willing to sacrifice if nature charged us with such a bill?”
