Focus On Poland at Reykjavik IFF

Launched on September 23, the 7th Reykjavik International Film Festival will feature six Polish films. Marcin Wrona’s Chrzest (The Christening) will screen in the festival’s Main Competition, four other Polish features will be shown in the Focus On Poland special presentation, while Sztuczki (Tricks) by Andrzej Jakimowski will be part of the Youth Program.

The Reykjavik event will screen 140 films from 29 countries. American director Jim Jarmusch will be the festival’s special guest. Films will be shown in 14 sections, with screenings taking place over eleven days. One of the festival sections is New Visions, with twelve films from around the world screening in competition. Among these films is Chrzest (The Christening) by Marcin Wrona. Wrona’s movie will compete for the festivals grand prize – the Golden Puffin. Other films in competition include films by first-time and second-time filmmakers from Germany, Greece, Canada, the United States, and Iraq.

The following films will screen in the special section Focus on Poland, a presentation of Polish cinema: Cudowne lato (A Wonderful Summer) by Ryszard Brylski, the Montreal award winning Wenecja (Venice) by Jan Jakub Kolski, Drzazgi (Splinters) by Maciej Pieprzyca, and Operacja Dunaj (Operation Danube) by Jacek Głomb. Meanwhile the Youth Program for feature and documentary films for young audiences will include Sztuczki (Tricks) by Andrzej Jakimowski. Screening in the Open Seas section of the festival is Three Seasons in Hell by Tomáš Mašín, featuring Polish actors: Karolina Gruszka (in the leading role), Tomasz Tyndyk and Michał Dworczyk.

The 7th Reykjavik International Film Festival will run until October 3.
