"FOREST, 4 AM" IN MAIN COMPETITION IN SHANGHAI

Jan Jakub Kolski’s Las, 4 rano (Forest, 4 AM) has been selected to screen in Main Competition at the 19th Shanghai International Film Festival. The film was co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.

World Premiere of Las, 4 rano (Forest, 4 AM)

Jan Jakub Kolski’s latest feature will screen in Main Competition in Shanghai, competing for the festival’s Golden Goblet award against 13 other films from around the world, including Iran, China, Italy, and the United States. The festival jury is chaired by director, actor and musician Emir Kusturica. The world premiere of Las, 4 rano (Forest, 4 AM) will take place on June 15, followed by a press conference at which director Jan Jakub Kolski will discuss the film.  Las, 4 rano (Forest, 4 AM) has been nominated for the  Golden Goblet Award.

The screenplay for Las, 4 rano was written jointly by Jan Jakub Kolski and the film’s leading actor Krzysztof Majchrzak. Las, 4 rano (Forest, 4 AM) is the story of a wealthy businessman turned wild forest dweller named Forst, a roadside hooker and victim of gang wars called Nata, and a stubborn little girl named Jadzia, who appears in Forst’s life one day and demands that he take care of her.

Las, 4 rano (Forest, 4 AM) was filmed in Tomaszów Mazowiecki, Łódź and in the forests around Mikołajów. The film stars Krzysztof Majchrzak, Olga Bołądź and Marysia Blandzi. Las, 4 rano (Forest, 4 AM) was produced by Wytwórnia Filmowa Popielawy and co-produced by Centrala Film, EC1 Łódź – Miasto Kultury, the City of Łódź, Centrum Technologii Audiowizualnych, and K2 Strefa. The film was also co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.

This year in Main Competition will screen also German-Polish co-production Hear The Silence (Höre die Stille) by Ed Ehrenberg. In other festival sections will screen Czerwony pająk (The Red Spider) by Marcin Koszałka, 11 minut (11 Minutes) by Jerzy Skolimowski, Demon by Marcin Wrona, Letnie przesilenie (Summer Solstice) by Michał  Rogalski, Dekalog (The Decalogue) by Krzysztof Kieślowski and Barany. Islandzka opowieść (Hrútar/Rams) by Grímur Hákonarson.

The 19th Shanghai IFF

The Shanghai IFF is China’s only film festival accredited by the International Federation of Film Producers Associations (FIAPF) as an international competitive feature film festival, and is one of the largest film events in Asia. The festival consists of four sections: the Golden Goblet competition, film screenings, a film market and film forum. The festival’s mission is to support the development of world cinema and discover young directors via its New Talent award, presented annually since 2004 to an up-and-coming director from Asia.

The Grand Prize of last year’s edition of the festival went to Carte Blanche, a film by Jacek Lusiński.

The 19th Shanghai International Film Festival runs from June 11 through June 19, 2016.
