Twelve Films in Main Competition

The list of twelve titles competing for the Grand Prize at this year’s 36^th Polish Film Festival in Gdynia has been revealed. The new artistic director of the Gdynia festival Michał Chaciński comments on the final selection:

“The twelve titles in Main Competition at the Polish Film Festival in Gdynia are this year’s elite in Polish cinema. These are films that can be shown to audiences around the world. At the same time, this selection is a fantastic representation of Polish cinema as a whole; it proves that we had a good year. These films show that our filmmakers have diverse voices, are able to construct their own worlds, and reach for various forms of narration. But one thing is most important: it is a dozen of films that are artistically complete. These twelve films in Main Competition serve as the first sign of the qualitative changes I proclaimed in terms of the festival. I believe that if we want to be direct with our audiences, the filmmakers, and the jury members, then we have to assume that the Main Competition lineup will only feature films that are intriguing, inspire discussion, and leave audiences thinking. But at the same time, they must be good and worthy of awards, unique against the competition. I hope that these twelve films will inspire debate. I’d like to invite everyone to Gdynia to participate in this discourse. There will definitely be films worth watching, and worth being discussed.”
