Gotham in Progress

Gotham in Progress, a two-day works in progress event targeted at American independent filmmakers and European buyers will take place in the scope of American Film Festival in Wrocław on November 17-19.

The event is looking for US indie soon-to-be-finished films at post-production stage (rough cuts).

The call for entries is open from July 1st till September 15th 2011.

The list of accepted projects and a list of buyers/co-producers present will be announced October 15, 2011 on www.americanfilmfestival.pl and www.blackrabbitfilm.com.

The application requirements for the films are the following:

  • Narrative only (no documentaries)
  • Expected duration minimum 60 minutes (feature length)
  • At least one production company needs to be US-based
  • Films looking for completion money, sales agent or European distribution
  • At least 30 min of the film edited and to reach feature format by November 1st (rough cuts)
  • Only one film in post-production per Production Company can be submitted

The objective of Gotham in Progress is to foster the completion, circulation and distribution of American indie films marked by the stamp of singularity and independence in Europe. The industry event will gather European buyers (distributors, sales agents) in order to expose them to a selection of American independent feature films at the post-production stage.

The event will take form of two days of intense exclusive screenings (behind closed doors, for registered guests only) and one-to-one meetings on November 17-19, 2011.

The US filmmakers of 5-10 selected films will be invited to present their projects in the near-to-completion stage (feature length). The organizers offer flights and luxurious hotel in the historical city of Wrocław. Around 30 key European buyers will attend as well.

As a bonus to contracts resulting from the presentations and meetings, a jury made of professionals will award one of the selected works in progress. The awarded movie will get – among other things – a free digital master (DCP) from our sponsor XDC and free subtitling and postproduction services from our sponsor Studio L’Equipe (Value in Kind : 8000€). Besides, GIP will present a number of works-in-progress as 20-minutes presentations.

Gotham in Progress  is an initiative by New York and Paris based Black Rabbit Film, co-organized by New Horizons Association (organizer of the AFF, and Poland’s largest International Film Festival – New Horizons IFF), with the support of City of Wrocław and Polish Film Institute. The event is sponsored by Screen International, XDC, Studio L’Equipe and Festival Scope. It is the first industry event devoted to US-indies in Europe.

The second edition of American Film Festival is to take place in Wrocław on November 15-20, 2011. The only film event in Central Europe focused on American cinema will include two competitive sections for narrative and documentary features premiering in Poland (with audience awards of cash prizes of $10,000 and $5,000 respectively) and retrospectives of (Polish-born) Billy Wilder and Joe Swanberg – a prolific talent of mumblecore.
