"Ida" Nominated for European Film Awards in Four Categories

Ida, a film directed by Paweł Pawlikowski and co-financed by the Polish Film Institute, received a total of five nominations for this year’s European Film Awards: European Film, European Director (Paweł Pawlikowski), European Screenwriter (Paweł Pawlikowski and Rebecca Lenkiewicz), and two nominations for European Actress (Agata Kulesza and Agata Trzebuchowska). Łukasz Żal and Ryszard Lenczewski have been awarded the Carlo Di Palma Prize for European Cinematographer.

Four Nominations for Ida!

Nominations for the European Film Awards, presented by the European Film Academy in a total of 21 categories, were announced on November 8 at the 11th Seville International Film Festival. Among European films competing for this year’s European Film Awards is Ida, a film directed by Paweł Pawlikowski and co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.

Ida Nominated in Four Categories:

  • European Film;
  • European Director (Paweł Pawlikowski);
  • European Screenwriter (Paweł Pawlikowski and Rebecca Lenkiewicz);
  • European Actress (two nominations: Agata Kulesza and Agata Trzebuchowska)

Łukasz Żal and Ryszard Lenczewski Receive the Carlo Di Palma Prize

Winners of the European Film Awards in the categories decided by a special jury were also announced in Seville. This year’s Carlo Di Palma Prize for European Cinematographer went to Polish cinematographers Łukasz Żal and Ryszard Lenczewski for their work on Paweł Pawlikowski’s Ida.

Paweł Pawlikowski’s Ida is also in consideration for the EFA People’s Choice Award.

 

Lato 2014 (Summer 2014) Nominated in European Short Film Category

Lato 2014 (Summer 2014), a short film directed by Wojciech Sobczyk, is nominated for an award in the European Short Film category. This animated film, co-financed by the Polish Film Institute, is a harsh yet poetic grayish treatise on the desire to dominate and violence as the driving force of history. Nominations in this category were announced on November 6, 2014.

Other Polish Films Considered for Awards

In addition to Ida, Papusza by Joanna Kos-Krauze and Krzysztof Krauze and Wałęsa. Człowiek z nadziei (Wałęsa. Man of Hope) by Andrzej Wajda were among Polish films judged by the jury and EFA members that were eligible for nominations for the 2014 European Film Awards. 

EFA Nominations and Awards for Polish Filmmakers

Among films nominated for the European Film Awards in past years were several films co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.

 

In 2009, the European Film Awards went to Marcel Łoziński for his film Poste restante (European Short Film) and Andrzej Wajda (FIPRESCI prize). Szklana pułapka (The Glass Trap) was also nominated in the European Short Film category. Polish make-up artist Waldemar Pokromski was nominated for the Prix d’Excellence Special Prize for his work on The Baader-Meinhof Complex

 

In 2010, the award for European Short Film went to Katarzyna Klimkiewicz for her film Hanoi-Warszawa (Hanoi-Warsaw), while Roman Polański and his film Ghost Writer were nominated in the European Film, European Director, and European Screenwriter categories. Urszula Antoniak was nominated in the European Discovery category for her film Nothing Personal.

 

In 2011, Paparazzi by Piotr Bernaś and Opowieści z chłodni (Frozen Stories) were nominated in the European Short Film category, while Adam Sikora was nominated for the Carlo Di Palma Prize for European Cinematographer for his work on Essential Killing by Jerzy Skolimowski.

 

In 2012, Roman Polański and Yasmina Reza were nominated in the European Screenwriter category for the script to Carnage

 

In 2013, the award for European Animated Feature Film went to Ari Folman for his film The Congress.

Awards Ceremony in Riga

The 27th European Film Awards ceremony will be held on December 13 in Riga, the 2014 European Capital of Culture.
