"Ida" Nominated for the Lux Prize

The films of the 2014 Lux Prize official selection were unveiled today at the 49th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. One of the ten selected projects is Ida, a film directed by Paweł Pawlikowski and co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.

The Lux Prize nominations were presented by Lux Prize coordinator Doris Pack, member of the European Parliament Olga Sehnalova, and artistic director of the Karlovy Vary festival Karel Och.

2014 Lux Prize European Parliament Award nominees:

  • Bande de filles (Girlhood), directed by Céline Sciamma (France);
  • Feher Isten (White God), directed by Kornél Mundruczó (Hungary, Germany, Sweden);
  • Hermosa Juventud (Beautiful Youth), directed by Jaime Rosales (Spain, France);
  • Ida, directed by Paweł Pawlikowski (Poland, Denmark);
  • Kreuzweg (Stations of the Cross), directed by Dietrich Brüggemann (Germany, France); 
  • Le Meraviglie (The Wonders), directed by Alice Rohrwacher (Italy, Switzerland, Germany);
  • Macondo, directed by Sudabeh Mortezai, Austria;
  • Razredni Svoraznik (Class Enemy), directed by Rok Biček, Slovenia;
  • Turist (Force Majeure), directed by Ruben Östlund (Sweden, Denmark, Norway, France);
  • Xenia, directed by Panos H. Koutras (Greece, France, Belgium)

Fourth Film Supported by the Polish Film Institute to Receive Lux Prize Nomination

Paweł Pawlikowski’s Ida is the fourth film co-financed by the Polish Film Institute to be nominated for the Lux Prize. In 2012, one of the nominated films was Droga na drugą stronę (Crulic – The Path to Beyond), a film by Anca Damian, while in 2011 Jerzy Skolimowski’s Essential Killing was among the selected films. In 2008, the official selection included Sztuczki (Tricks), a film by Andrzej Jakimowski.

Award to Be Presented on December 17 in Strasbourg

One of the members of this year’s selection panel was Jakub Duszyński, representing Polish film distributor Gutek Film. The three finalists will be announced in late July at the Venice Days press conference of the Venice International Film Festival. The winner will be selected and announced on December 17 in Strasbourg.
