"Ida" Wins 2014 goEast

Ida, a film directed by Paweł Pawlikowski and co-financed by the Polish Film Institute, has won the top prize at the goEast Festival of Central and Eastern European Film in Wiesbaden.

Award for Best Feature Film

The festival’s top prize in the feature film category, the Skoda Film Award, went to Ida, a film directed by Paweł Pawlikowski. The award comes with a 10,000 euro cash prize.

The Skoda Film Award at the goEast festival marks the latest laurels for Paweł Pawlikowski’s acclaimed feature.

 

Ida has previously received the FIPRESCI jury award in the Special Presentations section of the 38th Toronto International Film Festival and four awards at the 38th Gdynia Film Festival: the Golden Lions for Best Film, the award for Best Cinematography, Best Actress (Agata Kulesza), and Best Production Design (Katarzyna Sobańska and Marcel Sławiński). The film also won top prizes at the 29th Warsaw Film Festival and 57th London Film Festival. Łukasz Żal and Ryszard Lenczewski received the Golden Frog grand prize at the 21st Camerimage International Festival of the Art of Cinematography and the ASC Spotlight Award. Paweł Pawlikowski received the Best Director award in the Baltic Gaze competition at the 19th Vilnius IFF. Most recently, the film received the Best Film award at the Sarasota IFF in Florida.

The Latest Film by Paweł Pawlikowski

Ida is the latest feature by director Paweł Pawlikowski and the first of his films to be produced entirely in Poland. The screenplay received the MEDIA European Talent Prize. The film was lensed by Łukasz Żal and Ryszard Lenczewski, and stars first-time actress Agata Trzebuchowska and acclaimed thespian Agata Kulesza, with supporting performances by Dawid Ogrodnik, Joanna Kulig, Jerzy Trela, and Adam Szyszkowski.

Polish-Danish Co-Production Supported by the Polish Film Institute

Ida was made as a Polish-Danish co-production, produced by Opus Film and Phoenix Film in cooperation with Portobello Pictures, Phoenix Film Polska, and Canal+ Polska. The film was co-financed by the Polish Film Institute, Eurimages, the Danish Film Institute, and the Łódź Film Fund.

Distribution and Reviews Abroad

Ida was released in Polish cinemas on October 25, 2013. Distribution in Poland is handled by Solopan. The film has also been released theatrically in Belgium, France, Italy, Spain, and the Netherlands. World sales are handled by Fandango Portobello. Ida has received excellent reviews abroad, especially in French and Italian media.
