"Imagine" at Festival do Rio

September 27 brought the opening of the 14th Rio de Janeiro International Film Festival. The lineup of this event features three films co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.

 

The Rio de Janeiro Film Festival takes place in 30 cinemas throughout the city. This year’s lineup features a total of 400 films from 60 countries.

Imagine

The Festival do Rio screening of Imagine by Andrzej Jakimowski will take place on September 29. This film was made in co-production between Poland, France, and Portugal by partner companies Zjednoczenie Artystów i Rzemieślników (ZAiR), KMBO Production, Filmes do Tejo Film and Music Entertainment, Canal + Cyfrowy, and WFDiF. The film was also co-financed by the Polish Film Institute. The international premiere of Imagine took place at the Toronto International Film Festival; upcoming film events where Imagine is set to screen include Warsaw and London.

Znieważona ziemia (Land of Oblivion) and Zimowy ojciec (Wintertochter)

The Rio de Janeiro film festival lineup also features two international co-productions, co-financed by the Polish Film Institute. Znieważona ziemia (Land of Oblivion) by Michale Boganim was made as a co-production between France, Germany, Poland, and Ukraine, and previously screened at various festivals, including the Toronto IFF. This film marks the feature debut by a filmmaker previously recognized for her documentary films. Zimowy ojciec (Wintertochter) by Johannes Schmid was made as a co-production between Poland and Germany. Alongside German actors, the film features performances by Daniel Olbrychski, Julia Kamińska, Ryszard Barycz, and Agata Pruchniewska. In April 2012, Wintertochter received the Golden Lola German Film Award for Best Children’s Film.
