"In Hiding" to Premiere in Busan
The 18th Busan International Film Festival in South Korea will launch on October 3. The festival will mark the world premiere screening of W ukryciu (In Hiding), a film directed by Jan Kidawa-Błoński and co-financed by the Polish Film Institute. This year’s festival lineup also features several other Polish films.
W ukryciu (In Hiding) World Premiere
Busan has revealed a number of titles selected for screening in its various sections. The World Cinema section of the festival will mark the world premiere screening of W ukryciu (In Hiding), a film directed by Jan Kidawa-Błoński. The latest film by the creator of Różyczka (Little Rose), which screened in Busan in 2010, is set in wartime Poland and tells the complicated story of two women: Janina, a Polish woman, and Ester, the Jewish refugee whom she is hiding. W ukryciu (In Hiding) was previously shown at the first edition of Polish Days, an industry event organized within the framework of the T-Mobile New Horizons film festival. The film is set for a theatrical release in December.
World Cinema in Busan
The selection of 54 titles in the World Cinema section, announced by the festival team, also includes Ida by Paweł Pawlikowski and Wałęsa. Człowiek z nadziei (Wałęsa. Man of Hope) by Andrzej Wajda. All three Polish films set to screen in Busan have been co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.
Polish Films in Busan
The Busan International Film Festival is one of Asia’s key film events. For many years, it focused exclusively on Asian cinema, introducing world cinema into the programme only recently. In opening up to the world, the festival has displayed a special fondness for Eastern European cinema, including Polish cinema. Last year’s edition of the festival featured such Polish films as Yuma by Piotr Mularuk, Mój rower (My Father’s Bike) by Piotr Trzaskalski and Imagine by Andrzej Jakimowski. In 2011, Busan marked the international premiere of Wymyk (Courage) by Greg Zgliński, while the 2010 edition of the festival brought special mention of the jury in the Flash Forward competition for Erratum, a film by Marek Lechki.
The 18th Busan IFF runs from October 3 through October 12.
