Małgorzata Szumowska’s feature W imię… (In the Name Of…), a film co-financed by the Polish Film Institute, was released theatrically in Germany on May 15, 2014.

German Premiere

On May 15, 2014, W imię… (In the Name Of…), a film directed by Małgorzata Szumowska, will be released theatrically in Germany. The film’s German title is Im Names des… . Distribution in Germany is handled by Edition Salzgeber. The film was released theatrically in Poland on September 30, 2013, followed by a release in France on January 1st and Belgium on January 8.

W imię… (In the Name Of…)

The film tells a contemporary story focused on a priest who launches a help centre for troubled youths in a small parish. The good priest is well-liked by his congregation, yet he keeps the details of his complicated past a secret. The lead role was played by Andrzej Chyra, with supporting performances by Mateusz Kościukiewicz, Maja Ostaszewska, Maria Maj, Łukasz Simlat, and Tomasz Schuchardt.

A Film Supported by the Polish Film Institute

W imię… (In the Name Of…) was produced by MD4 and co-produced by Shot Szumowski and Zentropa. The script was written by Małgorzata Szumowska and Michał Englert, who also lensed the film. The original score was written by Paweł Mykietyn and Adam Walicki. The film was co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.

Award at Berlinale

 

W imię… (In the Name Of…) had its world premiere at the 63rd Berlin IFF, winning the Teddy Award. Szumowska’s latest feature was also recognized at the Dortmund Film Festival (Grand Prize), in Milan, and at the Nysa Film Festival, also winning the festival’s top prize. The film was released theatrically in Poland on September 20, 2013. Distribution in Poland is handled by Kino Świat.
