"In the Name Of…" Wins in Dortmund

Małgorzata Szumowska received the International Feature Film Award, the Grand Prize of the International Women’s Film Festival in Dortmund, for her feature W imię… (In the Name Of…).

Another Award for W imię… (In the Name Of…)

For screening in Main Competition, the programmers of the International Women’s Film Festival selected eight films, mostly European and Asian co-productions, from among over 100 submissions from 50 countries. One of the selected projects was Die Lebenden (The Dead and the Living) by Barbara Albert, a film made in co-production between Austria, Poland and Germany. The festival jury selected Małgorzata Szumowska’s W imię… (In the Name of…) as best film. Jury members included actress Marita Breuer, festival programmer Marian Masone, and director Jocelyne Saab. This award marks yet another success for Małgorzata Szumowska, whose In the Name Of… previously received the Teddy Award at the 2013 Berlin International Film Festival.

International Women’s Film Festival

The Main Competition of the International Women’s Film Festival in Dortmund is aimed at showcasing the works of female directors who after a successful debut are able to prove that they have their own visual style and way of storytelling. Previous Grand Prix winners include Andrea Arnold for her film Red Road, Maren Ade for Everyone Else, and Athina Rachel Tsangari for Attenberg.

 

The International Women’s Film Festival in Dortmund is the only festival of its kind in the world. Every year the festival screens approximately 80 recent and classic films directed by women.

W imię… (In the Name Of…)

 

tells the contemporary story of a priest who launches a help centre for troubled youths in a small parish. The good priest is well-liked by his congregation, yet he keeps the details of his complicated past a secret.

 

W imię… (In the Name Of…) was produced by MD4 and co-financed by the Polish Film Institute. The film had its world premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival. Theatrical release in Poland is scheduled for September 20, 2013, with distribution handled by Kino Świat.
