„IO” and two documentaries with a chance for the European Film Awards

The film „IO”, directed by Jerzy Skolimowski, co-financed by the Polish Film Institute, is among 30 candidates for the European Film Awards. This is another distinction after the image received the Jury Prize at this year’s Cannes Festival.

The Polish candidate will compete with such productions as: „Alcarras” by Carla Simon, „Belfast” by Kenneth Branagh, „Close” by Lukas Dhont, „Godland” by Hlynur Pálmason, „Holy Spider” by Ali Abbasi, „Parallel Mothers” by Pedro Almodovar,  „Tori and Lokita” by the Dardenne brothers or „Triangle of Sadness” by Ruben Ostlund.

The European Film Academy has decided – as in previous years – to announce a selection of feature films for the European Film Awards in two parts. The 30 titles listed on August 18 joined by 10-15 more in September. To be in this group, the films had to have their first official screening between June 1, 2021 and May 31, 2022 and have a European director. The members of the European Film Academy will decide who will receive the statuettes, and their verdict will be announced on December 10, 2022 at the gala in Reykjavik.

„IO”

This Polish-Italian co-production tells the story of a simple donkey in an increasingly complex reality. Passed from hand to hand, the animal meets both good and bad people on its way. The story is a cinematic allegory, and the title of the film alludes to the sound that donkeys make.

Ewa Piaskowska is the co-author of the script, along with Jerzy Skolimowski. The authors of the photos are: Michał Dymek, Michał Englert and Paweł Edelman, production manager Tomasz Morawski, and Agnieszka Glińska is responsible for the editing. The cast of the film includes, among others Lorenzo Zurzolo, Sandra Drzymalska, Mateusz Kościukiewicz and Tomasz Organek.
