Jiří Menzel in Poland

The National Film Archive and the Czech Centre in Warsaw present a retrospective of films by Jiří Menzel, one of the most acclaimed Czech directors. The event will run in Warsaw’s Iluzjon cinema between May 6 and May 12, featuring a Q&A session with the director, a panel discussion, and a multimedia exhibition.

14 Films in Lineup

14 films, some from the collection of the National Film Archive, others brought here especially for the screening from the National Film Archive of the Czech Republic in Prague, will screen at Iluzjon between May 6 and May 12, in connection with a visit by the director of the cult film Closely Watched Trains in Warsaw.

Q&A and Panel Discussion

At 8.00pm on May 7, a panel discussion with experts from Poland and the Czech Republic will take place. On May 12 at 7.00pm, Jiří Menzel will be present at the cinema for a Q&A session with Grażyna Torbicka, host of the ‘Kocham kino’ programme, which airs on TVP2.

Multimedia Exhibition

The event will be accompanied by a multimedia exhibition in the foyer of the Iluzjon cinema. This exhibition features iconographic resources for Menzel’s films from the collections of the National Film Archive and the Prague Film Archive. The project is organized in partnership with the National Film Archive of the Czech Republic (Národní filmový archiv) and with ‘Kino na granicy’, the Cieszyn-based festival for films from the Czech Republic, Poland and Slovakia, also co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.
