"Joanna" Premieres at Moscow IFF

Joanna by Feliks Falk will screen in main competition at the Moscow International Film Festival. The 33^rd edition of the event will run from June 23 through July 2 2011. Joanna‘s screenings in Moscow mark the film’s international premiere.

The Moscow International Film Festival is considered to be one of the world’s top film events. This year’s main competition lineup features about 20 films. Joanna is one of the first officially confirmed titles. The final lineup will be announced on June 2.

The documentary section will screen Deklaracja nieśmiertelności (The Declaration of Immortality) by Marcin Koszałka.

Joanna, winner of the Best Director and Best Screenplay awards at last year’s Polish Film Festival in Gdynia, is set during the times of Nazi occupation of Poland. A young woman, whose husband has gone missing during the war, takes in a small Jewish girl. The child’s presence in Joanna’s flat is a source of constant fear.  Eventually someone informs the Nazis.  During an inspection of her flat, Joanna catches the eye of a Nazi officer who discovers her secret.
