"Katyń" nominated for European Film Academy Prix d'Excellence

Katyń by Andrzej Wajda is the only Polish production among films nominated for 2008 European Film Academy Prix d’Excellence. Magdalena Biedrzycka received the nomination for costumes.

Among the nominations announced Saturday in the various categories, two Italian films dominate (each received five nominations, including one for the film of the year): II Divo by Paol Sorrentino and Gomorra by Matteo Garrone. Four nominations went to Spanish El Orfanato by Juan Antonio Bayon and Israeli Waltz With Bashir by Ari Folman, and two nominations to French The Class by Laurent Canteta and English Happy-Go-Lucky by Mike Leigh.

This year’s European Film Academy Special Award for Honorary Lifetime Achievement was given to Judi Dench and the directors of the creation manifest Dogma: Soren Kragh-Jacobsen, Kristian Levring, Lars von Trier and Thomass Vinterberg.

The gala announcing the winners will take place on 6 December in Copenhagen.
