Łazarkiewicz at Santa Barbara IFF

Maraton tańca

Maraton tańca (Dance Marathon) by Magdalena Łazarkiewicz will screen in the Eastern Block competition at the upcoming 26th Santa Barbara International Film Festival in the United States. The festival will run from January 27 through February 6, 2011.

Dance Marathon is set in a small town, where a dance competition with an astonishing cash prize is taking place. To make things even more appealing for the contenders, the event is to have a special appearance by singing sensation Jessica. All the locals dream of winning the top prize. Except outsider Krystian, who falls for the singer.

The Santa Barbara International Film Festival is a well-established event, drawing an audience of over 70,000 each year, and with special appearances by acclaimed American directors, screenwriters, actors, producers, and Academy members. Eastern Block is a competition programme that screens a hand-picked selection of films from Eastern Europe.

Dance Marathon is scheduled to have three screenings, followed by Q&A sessions with director Magdalena Łazarkiewicz. The Santa Barbara screenings will mark the film’s US premiere, preceded only by the world premiere in Pusan in October 2010. The film is set for theatrical release in Poland in late March or early April 2011.

Written by Magdalena Łazarkiewicz and Maciej Kowalewski, Dance Marathon was produced by Grupa Filmowa. Distribution in Poland is handled by Kino Świat.

Dance Marathon was co-financed by the Polish Film Institute, Wrocław City Hall, and the Lower Silesian Voivodship authorities.
