„Leave no traces” is the Polish candidate for the Oscar

The Polish candidate for the Oscar in the Best International Feature Film category will be the production of Jan P. Matuszyński – „Leave no traces”. The film goes to cinemas on September 24.

The committee chose from among four submitted films: Apart from Jan P. Matuszyński film there were also „Najmro” (dir. Mateusz Rakowicz), „Prime Time” (dir. Jakub Piątek) and „Hyacinth” (dir. Piotr Domalewski)

The decision of the commission chaired by producer Ewa Puszczyńska was announced at a press conference at the headquarters of the Polish Film Institute.

Selection of the Polish candidate for the Oscar

The film „Leave no traces” was based on a report by Cezary Łazarewicz of the same title. First of all: it is the story of Grzegorz Przemyk, the son of an opposition poet, who died in 1983 as a result of a brutal beating by a police patrol. Second, it is a chilling story about rebellion, the fight between good and evil, and how the authorities initially ignore a case and then go to great lengths to hide it from the public.

Kaja Krawczyk-Wnuk is responsible for the script of Jan P. Matuszyński’s film, Kacper Fertacz for cinematography, and Ibrahim Malouuf for the music. We owe the costumes to Małgorzata Zacharska, the set design to Paweł Jarzębski, and the editing to Przemysław Chruścielewski. Produced by Aurum Film and distributed by Kino Świat, the picture is co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.

The committee that decided that this production would represent Poland in the Oscars race was composed by (apart from the aforementioned chair) Radosław Śmigulski (director of the Polish Film Institute), Sean Bobbit (film producer and president of the Association of Polish Animation Producers ), Jan AP Kaczmarek (composer and Oscar winner for the music to the film „Dreamer”), Małgorzata Szczepkowska-Kalemba (head of the Film Production and Film Project Development Department at the Polish Film Institute) and Łukasz Żal (cinematographer, twice nominated for an Oscar for cinematography for „Ida” and „Cold War”).
