"Little Rose" and "Reverse" in Moscow

Two Polish films, Różyczka (Little Rose) by Jan Kidawa-Błoński and Rewers (Reverse) by Borys Lankosz will screen in competition at the 32nd Moscow International Film Festival. Both features are “Golden Lions” Grand Prix winners at the Polish Film Festival in Gdynia (Różyczka is this year’s winner, while Rewers won the award in 2009).

Różyczka and 14 other features from around the world will compete for the “Golden George” award in Moscow IFF’s Main Competition. The president of this year’s jury is French director Luc Besson, whose latest project The Extraordinary Adventures of Adèle Blanc-Sec will be the festival’s closing film. Borys Lankosz’s feature Rewers will compete against seven other contenders in the Perspectives Competition. This section will be judged by a jury led by director John Irvin. Among jury members is Polish actress Karolina Gruszka.

Two films were selected for the out-of competition “Free Thought” documentary film section: Poste Restante by Marcel Łoziński and Chemia (Chemo) by Paweł Łoziński.

The special section for epic films about the Second World War will also feature Do krwi ostatniej (Until the Last Drop of Blood; 1978) by Jerzy Hoffman. Another festival section called “Zero Generation’s Choice” will feature Pociąg (Night Train) by Jerzy Kawalerowicz, alongside such films as Natural Born Killers by Oliver Stone, Taxi Driver by Martin Scorsese, and The Marriage of Maria Braun by Reiner Werner Fassbinder. The “Short Film Corner” section of the festival will include another Polish production: Real by Rafał Samusik.

The Moscow International Film Festival is one of Eastern Europe’s oldest film events; its first edition was held in 1935. Among the festival’s Grand Prix winners is Polish director Krzysztof Zanussi. This year’s festival will last from June 17 to 26.
