"Magma" Awarded in Palm Springs

Paweł Maślona’s student film Magma, produced by the Radio and Television Faculty of the University of Silesia and co-financed by the Polish Film Institute, received the award for Best Student Live Action Short Over 15 Minutes at the 19th Palm Springs International ShortFest.

The award winner was selected by jury members Sydney Netter (founder of SND Films), Missi Pyle (actress) and Betsy Sharkey (film critic for the Los Angeles Times). Paweł Maślona’s Magma is the story of Janusz (Łukasz Simlat), a furniture salesman. One day, Janusz accidentally tears a pillow; which is the first ‘accident’ at the company in a long time. It appears that the mishap has made Janusz anxious. Or is there something else troubling him?

A Film Produced at the Radio and Television Faculty of the University of Silesia

The student film Magma was produced at the Krzysztof Kieślowski Radio and Television Department of the University of Silesia. The script was written by Paweł Maślona and Maciej Madracki, while the film was lensed by Cezary Stolecki and scored by Igor Kłaczyński. The artistic supervisor of Magma was Leszek Wosiewicz. The film is represented at festivals by the Krakow Film Foundation.

19th Palm Springs International ShortFest

The lineup of this year’s edition of the festival featured 330 films selected among over 3,000 submissions. 70 of the films had their world premiere at Palm Springs, while the whole lineup featured films from a total of 49 countries around the world.
