"The Christening" in San Sebastian

Marcin Wrona’s feature Chrzest (The Christening), winner of the Silver Lions, Best Actor (for Wojciech Zielińki and Tomasz Schuchardt), and Best Editing awards at this year’s Polish Film Festival in Gdynia will screen in the “Zabaltegi – New Directors” competition for first- and second-time directors at the 58th San Sebastian International Film Festival. This year’s edition of the San Sebastian IFF will last from September 17 to 25.

The last Polish feature to screen at this prestigious film festival was Piotr Trzaskalski’s Mistrz (The Master; 2005).

As Barbara Hollender wrote of The Christening in “Rzeczpospolita”: “This faultlessly made film about a man with a mafia sentence over his head is in fact a story about one’s past, of which it is impossible to get free; it’s about being responsible for one’s own life, about the importance of choices we make, and about the difficulties of friendship between men. It is a brutal picture about very delicate emotions. An excellent piece of filmmaking.”

The Christening features Wojciech Zielińki, Tomasz Schuchardt, Natalia Rybicka, and Adam Woronowicz.
