Martin Scorsese Presents: Masterpieces of Polish Cinema

February 5, 2014 will mark the opening of “Martin Scorsese Presents: Masterpieces of Polish Cinema”, a series of screenings of restored classic Polish films at the Film Society of Lincoln Center in New York City. The event has been co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.

Masterpieces of Polish Cinema Selected by Martin Scorsese

“Martin Scorsese Presents: Masterpieces of Polish Cinema” is a selection of digitally restored classic Polish films presented by American director Martin Scorsese. The event will launch on February 5, 2014 at the Film Society of Lincoln Center in New York City. The series will then travel to over 30 cinemas across the United States and Canada. Screenings will be followed by Q&A sessions with filmmakers.

21 Films in Lineup

The lineup of the series features a total of 21 Polish films, digitally restored within the framework of the KinoRP project: Popiół i diament (Diamonds and Ashes), Niewinni czarodzieje (Innocent Sorcerers), Ziemia obiecana (The Promised Land), Człowiek z żelaza (Man of Iron), and Wesele (The Wedding) by Andrzej Wajda, Austeria, Matka Joanna od Aniołów (Mother Joan of the Angels) and Faraon (Pharaoh) by Jerzy Kawalerowicz, Krzyżacy (Black Cross) by Aleksander Ford, Przypadek (Blind Chance) and Krótki film o zabijaniu (A Short Film About Killing) by Krzysztof Kieślowski, Barwy ochronne (Camouflage), Constans (The Constant Factor) and Ilumincja (The Illumination) by Krzysztof Zanussi, Eroica by Andrzej Munk, Sanatorium pod klepsydrą (The Hour-Glass Sanatorium) and Rękopis znaleziony w Saragossie (The Saragossa Manuscript) by Wojciech Jerzy Has, Salto (Jump) and Ostatni dzień lata (The Last Day of Summer) by Tadeusz Konwicki, and Trzeba zabić tę miłość (To Kill This Love) by Janusz Morgenstern.

The event has been organized by The Film Foundation, created by Martin Scorsese to preserve and protect motion picture history, co-organized by KinoRP, Cyfrowe Repozytorium Filmowe, diFactory and Propaganda, in cooperation with Milestone Film&Video, Tor Film Studio, Zebra Film Studio, and Kadr Film Studio. The series is organized in partnership with the Polish Institute in New York , and is co-financed by the Polish Film Institute, the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, and the National Audiovisual Institute.

KinoRP Supported by the Polish Film Institute

KinoRP is an initiative launched by KPD in 2008, aimed at digitally restoring the masterpieces of Polish cinema and bringing film quality up to meet the technological capacity of state-of-the-art screening technology. Over 140 Polish feature, documentary and animated films have been restored to date. KinoRP is organized under honorary patronage of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage Bogdan Zdrojewski. The digital restoring of Polish films is also co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.
