Wszystkie nieprzespane noce (All These Sleepless Nights), a film by Michał Marczak, will be released theatrically in Romania on July 28, 2017. The film was co-financed by the Polish Film Institute and received acclaim at last year’s Sundance festival.

“This film is neither pretentious nor obvious. It shows a series of moments, but you know that they convey a deeper meaning. This film is simply beautiful. Wonderfully directed, made with love and respect. The kind of film that if you see it & you remember it,” said Sundance programmer Hussain Currimbhoy in an interview for the Polish Film Institute.

Screenings and Awards at International Film Festivals

For his last film, Michał Marczak received the Best Director award in the World Cinema Documentary Competition) at the 2016 Sundance festival, as well as a number of other accolades, including the Audience Award at the 16th T-Mobile New Horizons IFF. Wszystkie nieprzespane noce (All These Sleepless Nights) previously screened in North America at Hot Docs, True/False and Full Frame film festival. In Europe, the film screened in the documentary competition at the 51st Karlovy Vary IFF.  In January 2017, the film received the Heterodox Award in New York City. Presented within the framework of the Cinema Eye Awards, the Heterodox Award is for filmmakers making films that explore the boundaries between documentary and fiction). Marczak’s film was also nominated in three other categories of the Cinema Eye Awards: Outstanding Achievement in Cinematography (Michał Marczak, Maciej Twardowski), Outstanding Achievement in Original Music Schore (Lubomir Grzelak) and in The Unforgettables, an awards category honouring the protagonists of documentary films, with a nomination for Michał Huszcza.

This marks the third time Michał Marczak has been nominated for the Cinema Eye Honors. In 2012, his film Koniec Rosji (At the Edge of Russia) was nominated for Best Debut, and in 2014 his documentary Fuck for Forest was nominated for the Spotlight award.

An Insightful Portrait of Present-Day Polish 20-Year-Olds

Krzysiek ends his five-year relationship with his first girlfriend, and moves in with his best friend Michał. They both immerse themselves in city night life, from intimate house parties to club gigs and outdoor festivals. They do not cease in their efforts to find their place in life. The honest conversations, all-night parties and escapades grow into a portrait of dreams, fears, and frustrations. This male friendship is put to a test when the mysterious Eva, Michał’s ex-girlfriend, suddenly appears in their lives. Pulsating with emotions and music, this story is told from the point of view of two friends caught in a love triangle.

A Film Co-Financed by the Polish Film Institute

Wszystkie nieprzespane noce (All These Sleepless Nights) is a Polish-British co-production, made by Endorfina Studio [producer of the award winning documentary 15 stron Świata (15 Corners of the World)] and Pulse Films (producer of 20,000 Days on Earth). The film was co-produced by Telewizja Polska, the Mazovia Film Fund and Fundacja Moma Film, and co-financed by the Polish Film Institute, the Sundance Institute, and Brit Doc Circle Fund. The Polish theatrical release was on November 4, 2016, with distribution handled by Kino Świat.
