"THE ECCENTRICS" IN MAIN COMPETITION AT MOSCOW IFF

Excentrycy, czyli po słonecznej stronie ulicy (The Eccentrics. The Sunny Side of the Street), a film directed by Janusz Majewski and co-financed by the Polish Film Institute, will screen in Main Competition at the 38th Moscow International Film Festival. The festival, which runs from June 23 through June 30, has recently released the first titles in its competition lineup.

Excentrycy (The Eccentrics) in Main Competition

Janusz Majewski’s latest feature is one of the first eight announced feature films to compete for the St George Awards at the upcoming Moscow IFF. Other competition entries include films from France, Iran, and Brazil. The competition will be judged by jury members Randhir Kapoor (actor and producer), Ulrike Ottinger (director), and Ivaylo Hristov (actor). Meanwhile the Documentary Film Competition jury will have among its members Krzysztof Gierat, director of the Krakow Film Festival.

An Adaptation of a Novel by Włodzimierz Kowalewski

Excentrycy (The Eccentrics) is an adaptation of Włodzimierz Kowalewski’s novel of the same name. The film is set in the late 1950s world of jazz musicians and stars Maciej Stuhr, with supporting performances by Natalia Rybicka, Wojciech Pszoniak, Anna Dymna, and Wiktor Zborowski. Excentrycy (The Eccentrics) was lensed by Adam Bajerski, with production design by Andrzej Haliński and an original score by Wojciech Karolak.

A Film Co-Financed by the Polish Film Institute

Produced by Warsaw-based WFDiF, the film had its world premiere at the 40th Gdynia Film Festival, winning the Silver Lions award and the Best Supporting Actor award for Wojciech Pszoniak. Excentrycy (The Eccentrics) also received the 2016 Eagle Polish Film Awards in the following categories: Best Supporting Actress (Anna Dymna), Best Supporting Actor (Wojciech Pszoniak), Best Music (Wojciech Karolak), and Best Sound (Krzysztof Jastrząb, Mateusz Irisik). The film was released theatrically in Poland on January 15. Distribution is handled by Next Film.

Polish Films in Out-of-Competition Sections

This year’s lineup of the out-of-competition sections feautres other Polish films co-financed by the Polish Film Institute: 11 Minut (11 Minutes) by Jerzy Skolimowski (8 1/2 Films), Córki Dancingu (The Lure) by Agnieszka Smoczyńska (The Time of Women) and Bracia (Brothers) by Wojciech Staroń (Free Thought. Documentary Cinema Program). Special Screenings section includes Ziemia obiecana (The Promised Land) by Andrzej Wajda.
