19th Polish Film Festival in Lithuania





The 19th Polish Film Festival in Lithuania will take place from October 3-13, 2019 in five Lithuanian cities – Vilnius, Kaunas, Marijampole, Mazeikiai and Soleczniki. The main organizer of the event is the Polish Institute in Vilnius.

“For nineteen years, viewers of the Polish Film Festival can learn about the cream of the cream of Polish cinema: the best directors, actors and screenwriters. The films we show very often win awards at Polish and foreign film festivals. This year it will be similar. We have prepared a program in which everyone will find something interesting. The latest productions of Agnieszka Holland, Jacek Borcuch, Borys Lankosz, Jan Jakub Kolski and Filip Bajon are waiting for viewers. We will watch the best Polish stars: Krystyna Janda, Borys Szyc, Magdalena Cielecka, Janusz Gajos and Piotr Adamczyk. The special program was dedicated to the recently deceased Kazimierz Kutz, not yet fully discovered by the Lithuanian audience. His films have entered the canon of Polish cinema” says Marcin Łapczyński, counselor of the Polish Embassy in Vilnius and director of the Polish Institute in Vilnius.

Recent Historical Movies

The organizers devoted a lot of space to new historical productions. The audience in Lithuania will be able to watch, among others “Piłsudski” by Michał Rosa, “The Messenger” by Władysław Pasikowski, “The Butler” by Filip Bajon or “Autsajder” by Adam Sikora.

“The Day of Chocolate” for the youngest audience

For younger viewers, the organizers have prepared a screening of the film “The Day of Chocolate” by Jacek Piotr Bławut.

Retrospective of Kazimierz Kutz

This year, the special program is dedicated to the Polish film and theater director Kazimierz Kutz, who passed away in 2018 (1929-2018). The retrospective includes five films: “Nobody’s Calling” (1960), “Silence” (1963), “Salt of the Black Earth” (1969), “Pearl in the Crown” (1971) and “Zawrócony” (1994).

Festival guests

The main program included the latest film by Jan Jakub Kolski, “Pardon” (2018). The director Jan Jakub Kolski and the actress of the main role, awarded for the main female role at the Gdynia Film Festival, Grażyna Błęcka-Kolska will come to Vilnius. Łukasz Grzegorzek will present his second film – A Coach’s Daughter’ (2018). And Michał Rosa will show “Piłsudski”.

Tickets for the Festival can be purchased at the ticket offices of the Skalvija, Pasaka, Multikino, Romuva, Spindulys cinemas or on the Tiketa and / or bilietai.lt portals. Films will be presented free of charge in Możejki and Soleczniki.

The honorary patron of the event is  Polish Film Institute.
