41ST GDYNIA FILM FESTIVAL: MAIN COMPETITION AND VISIONS APART COMPETITION LINEUP

The lineup of the 41st Gdynia Film Festival’s Main Competition and Visions Apart competition has been announced.

The lineup of the Main Competition and Visions Apart competition at the upcoming 41st Gdynia Film Festival has been announced. The festival, co-financed by the Polish Film Institute, will run from September 19 through September 24, 2016.

  • Las, 4 rano (Forest 4 AM), directed by Jan Jakub Kolski;
  • Na granicy (The High Frontier), directed by Wojciech Kasperski;
  • Ostatnia Rodzina (The Last Family), directed by Jan P. Matuszyński;
  • Plac zabaw (Playground), directed by Bartosz M. Kowalski;
  • Planeta Singli (Planet Single), directed by Mitja Okorn;

Visions Apart Competition

  • Biuro budowy pomnika (Office for Monument Construction), directed by Karolina Breguła;
  • Kryształowa dziewczyna (The Crystal Girl), directed by Artur Urbański;
  • Ederly, directed by Piotr Dumała;
  • ZUD, directed by Marta Minorowicz

This is the second year that the Visions Apart section is organised as a competition; in 2014, it was a showcase, presenting films with a unique artistic vision. Visions Apart is a section intended for films that transcend genres and experimental projects; films that aren’t easy to label. The top prize in the Visions Apart competition is the Golden Claw. This award, presented for “courage in terms of form and subject matter,” comes with a financial prize of 30,000 PLN (18,000 for the director and 12,000 for the producer).

Films by First- and Second-Time Directors at the Gdynia Film Festival

This year’s Main Competition saw 45 submissions, with another 14 films submitted for consideration in Visions Apart. The Main Competition lineup features a total of seven films by first-time directors, and two by second-time directors. The Visions Apart lineup features one debut and three films by second-time directors. The Gdynia Film Festival screenings will mark the Polish premiere for eight films in the Main Competition lineup and two in Visions Apart.

The 41st Gdynia Film Festival runs from September 19 through September 24, 2016.
