6TH FESTIVAL OF POLISH CINEMA IN BRAZIL

The sixth edition of the Festival of Polish Cinema in Brazil is currently under way. The event is co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.

6th Festival of Polish Cinema in Brazil

The 6th Festival of Polish Cinema launched at the Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil in Rio de Janeiro on June 8, 2016. This year’s edition of the festival focuses on screening a selection of interesting film debuts and promoting young filmmakers and new trends in arthouse cinema. Screenings are accompanied by Q&A sessions and discussions on Polish cinema. This festival is the only major film event focusing on Polish cinema in Brazil.

Polish films in Brazil

The festival lineup features a number of recent Polish films and marks the Brazilian premiere screening for all of them. Films in the lineup include:

  • Jeziorak (Waterline) by Michał Otłowski;
  • Dziewczyna z szafy (The Girl from the Wardrobe) by Bodo Kox;
  • Miasto 44 (Warsaw 44) by Jan Komasa;
  • Obietnica (The Word) by Anna Kazejak;
  • Płynące wieżowce (Floating Skyscrapers) by Tomasz Wasilewski;
  • Bogowie (Gods) by Łukasz Palkowski

The festival will also screen six Polish documentaries, selected by the Krakow Film Foundation:

  • Obiekt (Object) by Paulina Skibińska;
  • Nasza klątwa (Our Curse) by Tomasz Śliwiński;
  • Rogalik by Paweł Ziemilski;
  • Superjednostka (Super Unit) by Teresa Czepiec;
  • Punkt wyjścia (Starting Point) by Michał Szcześniak;
  • Siedmiu mężczyzn w różnym wieku (Seven Men at Different Ages) by Sławomir Witek

Screenings in cities across Brazil

The festival runs from June to August 2016 and will visit some of Brazil’s major cities:

  • Rio de Janeiro (June 8-13);
  • São Paulo (June 21 – July 20 and June 30 – July 3);
  • Brasília (June 22-27);
  • Porto Alegre (dates TBC);
  • Belo Horizonte (August 22-25);
  • Curitiba (August 17-20);
  • Fortaleza (dates TBC)

Event supported by the Polish Film Institute

The Festival of Polish Cinema is organised annually in Brasil since 2009 by the Embassy of Poland in Brasil and Agencja Mañana, in cooperation with multiple local partners. The event is co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.
